Getting in the spirit: Two songs & a moan

I spent most of today with the Toby Keith ESPN song rattling around my head, as it has been since Thursday. It was a catchy jingle, and I hope they do more of it, but it does get a bit repetitive when you see it on every game (albeit with different highlights):

And of course, what college football discussion is complete without the College Gameday theme music:

And one moan. I don’t know who the announcers were on the Florida St/Miami game, but they fell into one of my pet peeves — over-exaggerating a missed PAT. Florida started a true freshman kicker, who had a pretty good game, hitting some long ones unlike recent FSU kickers in this series. However he shanked one PAT badly, low and left. On a later drive, FSU converted a 2-point try to restore the balance. Thereafter, with the game tied, the commentator proceeded to tell us how the missed PAT was the difference, as if without it FSU would be leading. Complete and utter nonsense! Had he scored the PAT, there is no way in hell they would have gone for the 2-point try on the later drive. The 2-point try negated the missed PAT, as usual, yet commentators seem determined to think things would have played out exactly as they did.
